Holy Tomatoes Batman!

So.. got out to the garden this morning to pull some weeds and I am just amazed at how well the whole thing is going this year. I can't believe how many tomatoes are on my plants and how dense my jungle of carrots is, my jalapeno plant is mid thigh high, the beets are delicious, the corn is taller than ever, the sunflowers are blooming like crazy, and the squash is spreading like never before. I've done a few new things this year. To start with I had the chickens last year, so there is lots of extra nitrogen in the soil now, combined with the 100 or so bags of leaves and pumpkins we gathered in the fall that have been composted with the chicken poop I have some pretty incredible soil. Also, I took into account last year's less than stellar yield and the symptoms of my plants and decided to add calcium and lime to the soil this year. Adding to all of that goodness I am topdressing most of the plants with Alpaca Poop. So that is what I've done with the dirt. (Maybe...

So.. another day... another jar.. Today was spent canning salsa and lazing about.. just not feeling up to doing much more than lounging today. Had a really fun night sitting out with some friends last night and I will leave it at "red wine is the devil" mm..k? Onwards.. pic of the girlie with the bunny George loves his cage.. but even more than his cage he loves my half round table! This is the new bunny shelf.. and he is the new knick knack Awesome find the other day, I decided to hit the garden center and pick up a new basil plant and a new lavender because I accidentally pulled out the old one.. They had no basil.. apparently it's too late in the season to get more. Guess I'll have to just sprout some on my own then :( but I did manage to find a bushel of freestone peaches for $10!!! So guess what I spent the next day doing! That's right.. I canned those peaches! I can't wait to taste them in December! Nothing is better than Ontario peaches in Decemb...

Happy birthday to me, Happy birthday to me, Happy birthday Dear Sheri... Happy birthday to ME!!! So.. since it's my birthday.. Guess I'll show you my birthday present :) This is Jumpy George, I rescued him from the humane society today :) He is the sweetest bunny, cuddly and gives kisses too! Not only is he an awesome pet, but he'll also be handy helping with the garden. :) He seems kinda old, and looks almost exactly like our old bunny Floppy Fred. They have very similar markings.. Fred escaped and has been a stray bunny for years... this bunny was turned in as a stray a few weeks ago... Wanna see my garden? Of course you do! My out front peas have sprouted! I think a pumpkin has snuck itself into my box garden... prolly gonna have to pull this huge thing.. before it wrecks my squash. This doesn't look like a baby squash to me.. See the difference between my heirloom tomato and my roma.. the Roma is on the right.. One of the tomatoes on that heirloom is gargantua...

Life as usual, oh.. and a cottage trip :)

Well.. this weekend started out with a girls lunch out with my bitty girl on Friday.. I took the girlie out to the Mandarin for some lunch.. I wanted Sushi pretty badly.. she HATES seafood.. so this was the best option... The food was good as usual.. but the Shirley Temple she got was to die for! At some point after we got to the cottage Andrew got ahold of my camera and they took these shots.. The next morning the kids were out on the lake in record time! These flowers grow everywhere but at my house.. and I love them. The kids had to use the pedal boat next Drew fell in a few times just to make Tisha laugh. Apparently Uncle Gene has been keeping better track of Drew's growth than we have.. and so now we know that in the last two months the boy has grown about an inch. This is the view from the A frame cottage.. what a nice view to wake up to in the morning! Tisha and her cousins Eve and Gillian were busy doing manicures. The boys, on the other hand, were catching crayfish, I can...
