Well, it's that time of year again.. you know the time I mean, pumpkin and leaf time! This time of year we always steal all the neighbours leaves and jack o lanterns and pile them up on the garden to compost for next year's garden. The kids love it because they get a huge leaf pile for jumping in and tens of pumpkins for smashing. The new thing this fall is that we have pet chickens. The four hens joined us in the spring and have been well loved family pets ever since. We get about 3-4 eggs a day from them and they are more than happy to take care of any leftovers we have laying around and helping out with turning the compost pile. This is a job they are so dedicated to that one of them will peck my pants leg until I remember that I haven't turned the pile yet today. She wants her worms! We are hoping to pass a bylaw in town soon so that we can let them have a coop in the back yard, but for now they sleep in a dog kennel in the back room and spend their days e...

So today was good! I started with going to school and applying for college! That's right! I'm officially a college applicant! Here's hoping I get in! Then I came home and worked in the garden.. pulling weeds and stuff.. I have a fail sunburn across my lower back.. it's pretty funny. Here's some shots of the garden.. beets radishes some peppers My flowers here's a full shot of the veggie garden! some of my tomatoes are growing.. very exciting! one of my many varieties of peppers and my squash are starting to grow little squashes.. hopefully that's what I planted.. it will really suck if these end up being the little pumpkins.. The chickens are doing well and are quite happy with all the weeds I gave them to eat today Tisha was showing off her new Hawaii outfit that she got from her gramma and grampa yesterday and some freakishly adorable pics of Puss crashed out in my bed with me.. and I think it's funny how Tisha treats this kitten like a baby.. a...

Well.. I must say I'm pretty impressed with how my strawberry crop is doing this year. In the past week I have harvested enough to make a really delicious strawberry/rhubarb crisp and a few jars of strawberry/rhubarb jam So that is much better than the two handfuls we got last year :) We also got our Marineland season passes in the past week. I went with Joey and Tisha a few days back but the camera died before I got any pics of them... and I went another day with just Tisha as she was quite upset about the day with the older kids as she didn't get to go on many rides. We managed to make a few new friends.. This is Cleo and Zena. and our old friend Eve from last year. She seems to remember me because every time I talked her melon would point in my direction like she was trying to listen harder. She also kept coming up to the top to see us :)

Well.. today was fun. The plan was to take all three kids to Marineland, but Drew got into a pile of junk food for breakfast and ate himself too sick to go... idiot... So I ended up taking just Joey and Tisha. My friend Tina and her kids came too so it was super fun because I got to go on the rides with the older kids! I finally got to try out a few rides I haven't been on before and took Joey on a few he hasn't been on. Tisha was a bit annoyed that she had to wait for us and wasn't spending the whole day on kiddie rides... but she got to go on a few new ones as well. We fed the fish and discovered a large snapping turtle in the pond... Joey wanted to eat it. Thanks mom. At this point my legs are dead.. I am tired.. good night!

So I've finally uploaded the pictures from our little trip to Happy Rolph's on monday.. also I have some pictures of the strawberries we picked today from the garden.. I can't wait to make something with them once Matt gets home to go buy me butter!! For those of you who don't know, Happy Rolph's is a free petting farm just outside the city where we can go see all kinds of different farm animals and ducks/geese. They have goats, horse, pony, llamas, sheep, pigs, cow, donkeys, chickens, bunnies, and a pond for ducks. It's a great place to take the kids for an afternoon as they also have picnic areas and a playground. We discovered that we can be the animal's favourite people if we bring chicken scratch instead of the 25 cents a handful animal feed they have there.. the goats will leave you just plain slobbery and the cow will stick her tongue out so far you're amazed it will fit back into her head! (seriously.. it was like a foot long!) I even managed...

So today was another good day. Started out with lounging around watching cartoons with Tisha this morning, then got up and went to dollarama. We found some cool pots for putting tomatoes into on the patio and a candle to put on Amy's grave. Drove up to the cemetery and walked around there looking at old graves for a while.. it's such a sobering thought that so many people lost so many babies.. there are three gravestones I have found so far with 3 or 4 babies on one stone... I'm so grateful that I live in the time I do and most of my children have made it past babyhood! On the way back I found a really neat garden centre (midway on 4th ave) that offers heirloom varieties of tomatoes! I picked up four, "Black Prince", "Mr.Stripey", "Cherokee Purple", and "Green Zebra." I'm pretty excited about that because the chickens ate half of my tomato plants and they were all heirloom and I really wasn't sure if the new ones would g...
